POP: SOT won't acknowledge admin rights

A

Adrian

I bought the game Prince of Persia: Sands of Time but
after installing it and trying to run it a Windows error
pops up saying I must have admin rights to run. Then
another error says the game process has been manually
killed. The thing is I'm the only user on the machine
with admin rights--in fact I'm the only user on the
machine period. All the drivers have been updated and
windows updates have been downloaded. The specs of my
machine are below.

Windows XP
40 GB hard drive
1 GB of ram
GeForce 5600 Graphics card
1.73 GHz processor
DirectX 9.0b

What could be the problem? I'd appreciate any advice :)

Hi Adrian,

Please set a restore point before attempting the suggestions in this post.
How to use Windows XP System Restore:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/using/howto/gethelp/systemrestore.asp

Try this workaround. Create a new Administrator account and install the game
using it. Afterwards test the game to be sure it works. If successful test with
the old Administrator account. If that fails, switch everything to the new
Administrator account using the Windows XP File and Settings Transfer Wizard.

Jimmy S--
O.K., well I tried testing the installation out on
another NEW administrator's account and it still didn't
work on the new account. In fact I've:
--Uninstalled POP:SOT and cleared out the windows\temp
folder as well as all registry references before
reinstalling
--Installed on the builtin administrator's account
--Installed and rebooted before trying to start program
(even though it didn't say it had to be rebooted)
I'm just mentioning this so you can see if I've missed
anything. I've also made sure that when installing, all
antivirus software is turned off. Is there any way that
I can change the registry settings or add some value to
the registry that would bypass the neccessity for admin
rights?
Thanks for the advice though Jimmy, if you have any more
I'd like to hear it. :)

Hi Adrian,

You could use Start / Run / regedit, search for the registry keys
associated with that game and make sure your account(s) have
full permissions to them, however I think repairing Windows
might be a *Safer* route to take. If not, setup a restore point.
