pop server shows messages as read with outlook 2003?

Before Outlook 2003, I had Outlook XP and comcast.net webmail. Before, every
time I signed on to Comcast webmail, it reported the number of unread
messages correctly. After new computer with Outlook 2003, my webmail inbox
has ZERO unread messages even though I never read any of the 4 messages (for
example). Does MS Outlook 2003 do something in background before I launch it
that would mark these messages as 'Read' on the comcast server?

Hi Vince,

How did my POP3 serve know that mail was downloaded, Outlook 2003 was never
opened or launched? Any assistance is welcomed...

Ah, sorry but I missed that part. Sounds like something may have changed on
Comcast's end of things or someone actually read the mail items
