This often means that an antivirus program has corrupted part of the Windows
Mail database, probably the part you can't see. What if any antivirus
programs do you have? It can often be corrected for a while by clicking
Tools, then Accounts, then your email account, then Remove, and then
creating your email account again.

<http://www.comcast.net/help/faq/index.jsp?faq=Emailtop17686&cookieattempt=1>

They don't seem to have written instructions for creating the account under
Windows Mail yet, so use their instructions for Outlook Express but under
Windows Mail instead.

Same problem for me. Tried removing account and setting it up again. My
logon box keeps popping up. Tries to connect but quickly disconnects. Any
help? Can recieve mail ok.

What is the exact error message?
Have you checked your settings per Comcast's Website?

It shows there is an error but the box is empty. I have all the settings
correct according to comcast. In 2 online sessions with the dell techs, they
couldn't figure this out. K7 email virus settings switched off. Been trying
to solve this problem for 2 wks.

As a test, uninstall your antivirus, reboot, then try Windows Mail again.
If the problem continues, the AV may have corrupted that mail account.
Delete the mail account, restart Windows Mail, then recreate that account.

If the above is successful, let us know, and we can recommend a free
AV that is compatible with Windows Mail.

Wow it worked. You are a genius! These other tech guys couldn't figure this
out. Thank you. Whats a good AV and firewall to use now?

The incompatibility between Windows Mail and certain antivirus programs
is not well known outside of our cadre of experts who man this newsgroup.

Of the free antivirus products, both Avast and AVG work well, but when
installing, be sure to select the custom option where you can deselect
the email scanning feature.

For firewall, I use the one that comes with Vista, Windows Firewall.
Likewise for anti-spyware, I use Windows Defender. It helps that
these MS products are 100% compatible with Vista and Windows Mail.

I looked for AVG free AV but it's $40 and I don't want to pay till I know it
works for me. I saw the Avast for free and that sounds good but I'm not sure
which one to use. Could you possibly send me a link to the correct Avast AV?
Thank you again!
