Poor picture quality on DVD than on DV tape.

It seems to me that the output DVD has a less sharp video images than
originally on DV tape. I captured the video from the DV handycam to .wmv,
edited and burned the DVD. Can someone tell me what's wrong with my steps and
how can I get close to DV tape video images. Thanks a lot.

DVs are recorded in higher resolution than DVDs, i believe it's 525 for NTSC
and 576 for PAL. DVDs are recorded in 480 line. so when you converting DV
video to DVD video, resolution would be down sampled to work with DVD
players. as a result, you'll get poorer picture with DVD.

Thanks a lot! HS. But I got better results when using Sony bundled software
'click to DVD'. I'm now having a new desktop running Windows Vista Home
Premium, thus I need to use moviemaker. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

i have never used moviemaker, so can't help you there. i've tried Pinacle
and Ulead before, the results are still no comparison with DVs. you can
always try third party softwares like Media coder. it's a free program that
can be downloaded from here http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/. i've never
coverted DVs with it, so you going to have to test it out. good luck.

Cymbal Man Freq.

Set your screen resolution down to 800 x 600 when viewing the DVD, or maybe even
640 x 480 if you dare. Computer monitors are horrible on TV signals at higher
resolutions.
