Poor NETWORK (NOT INTERNET) Performance with XP PRO SP2

Have a customer with a severe data throughput problem.

Has 3 computers, identical, Intel 3GHz, 1GB RAM, WD 80GB hard drives XP PRO
w/SP2 installed. Only one computer acceses the internet. Problem is NOT
with internet. The problem occurs when data is transferred FROM the 2
stations TO the server. Other than that, everything is fine.

No Norton software installed. Network is wired and uses a 3Com Securenet
100mb router. Cable runs are less than 50 feet and are newly installed.

All possible scans have been run, especially a shareware program called
CLEANUP! which emptys Prefetch, temps, temp internet files, recycle bin,
cache, and much more.

Nothing seems to help. When application runs and transmits data to the
computer being used as a server, there is a significant slowdown in
performance...Just as MS's document describes.

MS's document 842264 talks about LSO (Large Send Offload). Not sure if this
will help but cannot find any user-friendly information about this feature.

Any ideas? Will the LSO feature work and, if so, where can I get
information about setting it up.

Try opening cmd prompt, type:netsh Winsock reset Then type:CHKDSK C: /F
Agree, type:EXIT Restart computer. Also,if the pc(s) run intel LAN hardware,
download the software/drivers from intel, get the chipset installation utility
also.

I tried this, and more. Still no change. Any other ideas? Also, any
information about "LSO"? I'm still curious about that feature because of the
way that microsoft worded the explaination of what it did?

I found the answer...and it was strange.

Two of the three computer on the network had onboard NICs. I disabled the
onboard NICs and installed a couple of 3Com Nics.

Problem resolved.

Strange...I have hever encountered this type of problem. Tried everything
that I could to correct this issue but didn't think of the NIC issue till
yesterday.

I am "assuming" that the onboard NICs consumed too much CPU power. Don't
know for sure though. Even Microsoft did not have any suggestions.

Thought that I post it here in case someone else encounters a similiar
problem.
