the million $ question: Does it actually exist.
if so, ild appreciate information on installation.
many a fruitless hour have i scoured the net in search of
information on this. :(
 
If you are wanting to modify your Windows XP policies, go to Start- Run and
type gpedit.msc.

yes, i am wishing to modify Xp's policies. However, there
is no gpedit file in or on this system to run/execute.
how would/ware i find it please?

Then you are probably running Windows XP Home Edition. I don't believe you
can set policies on that edition.

you are correct. most machines here are XP-HE and i need
the ability to lock them down.
are you aware of a way to install the group policy editor
on HE from a Pro cd?

If possible at all, I think locking down will be very limited supported.
Moreover, I don't think copying gpedit.msc will do the trick. However, you
can try. Good luck.

No can do. Depending upon what tweaks you want, the security console for
WinXP developed by MVP Doug Knox may help you. Check under utilites at
www.dougknox.com

No it doesn't. That was a Win95/98 tool; the NT equivalent, in XP, is
gpedit.msc And that comes only with XP Pro - XP Home does not even have
the needed underlying support
