PlugPlay won't start

Whenever I try to start the PlugPlay service, I get the following
error: The PlugPlay service on Local Computer started and then stopped.
Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for
example, the Performance Logs and Alerts service.

.... my device manager is empty, and it seems starting PlugPlay is the
way to fix it... but why can't I start it? And, more importantly, how
do I go about starting it?

Hey, you're reading that wrong...it's "Plug and Pray"!

lol. Thanks. So far, I haven't been able to find anything on how to
fix this. I tried tech support through Compaq, but they weren't of any
help. I'm thinking I may have to reformat at this point.

If you are using Web reader for read/post, you can search by topic and find
previous post with same problem.

One Had to restart service with regsvr command another said he had virus and
had to remove it first, others refer to MS KB articles.

Dennis,

I've searched through the group and tried the selected cures for this
problem already, and they haven't done anything. Perhaps, there's
somebody out there that's run into this specific problem and
circumstance. Thanks. :)
