Plug N Play Doesn't

Greetings all,

I'm trying to configure a new PC, and it's not cooperating at all. IBM
Netvista P4 3.0, 200GB HD, XP Pro, etc.

Plug n Play doesn't work for either USB or PCI devices. I can manually
install the drivers and the devices work OK.

I've checked all the usual suspects and tried all the tricks I know, but PnP
is still on strike. Any ideas, short of wiping and reinstalling Windows?

Thanks,

Larry123

Larry,
Windows XP has a Plug and Play service which needs to be running in order
for PnP to work.

To start this service, you must be an Administrator on your PC (either
logged in *as* Administrator, or as a user that has administrative rights).

To start it, right-click on My Computer, and choose Manage.
Click on the + next to Services and Applications.
Click on Services.
In the list, find Plug and Play.
Check the status of the service. Is it set to Started?
If not, right click on Plug and Play and choose Start.
Check the Startup Type of the service. Is it set to Automatic?
If not, double click on Plug and Play, change the Startup Type to Automatic,
and click Apply/OK.

Hopefully, that will get your Plug and Play working again.

The PnP service was set at Automatic, and it was running. That wasn't the
problem.

I bit the bullet and reformatted and reinstalled XP. What a PAIN!, but
everything is working correctly now.

Thanks for your help.
