Plug 'n play problems again

Hello

I seem to be jinxed when it comes to plug 'n play

I had problems with this before but put it down to my old computer with its
added 5 port USB 2 card and it's limited power supply to the cards.

But my new computer running Windows XP2 with SP2 fails to detect
automatically an external HD.

It wants to install the program that goes with this unknown external
peripheral but of cours it can't find it cos there isn't one.

What could be causing this?

Thanks in advance

Have you installed or updated the Motherboard Chipset Driver ?

Unknown peripheral ? - XP should read the VID of the external drive and
understand to install a USB category "Mass Storage Device", and in the
Disk Drives category a entry for the drive. Then Logical Disk Management
would mount and show entries in the Storage Volumes category. All the
drivers necessary for external drives are natively supported by XP.
