plug N play problems

Running XP Pro on two PCs

PC 1: plug n play is fighting over the installation of a USB printer;
every time I attempt to install it with the CD PNP pops up and attempts
to install. Then the CD installer gives me an error due to PNP's
interference.

PC 2: Every time I boot I get a PNP msg. saying it's found new hardware.
But there is NO new hardware and no devices in Device Manager show
problems. All is good, but PNP.

Can I, or should I, disable PNP?

Thanks.

Regarding PC 1: Is the printer you are trying to install a Hewlett-Packard?
If so, this is a fairly common problem and there is a fix for it. Try Google
to locate the fix and download it.

Regarding PC 2: Are they both networked? Are they both configured to share
printers? If the answer is "Yes" then PC 2 is trying to install the same
printer.

The answer to both questions is YES. I'll google and disable the print
share until I get the PC 1 worked out.
