I recently bought a new machine with Windows XP
Professional. I had a Lexmark X32 inkjet printer. Whenever
I start the machine with the printer powered up XP
announces that it has detected a new plug-and-play
hardware device. Then it attempts to load it. I see a
dialog that is copying files from somewhere down in
c:\windows\system32\spool\driver (the rest of the path is
cut off in the dialog).
The copy stops and I get a Plug-and-Play wizard window
that says it could not install the hardware because a file
could not be copied (but it does not list what file it
was). When I click "OK" the wizard goes away, and then it
starts all over again - it is in a loop and there is
nothing I can do to stop it save unplugging the printer.
I am able to download the driver for XP from Lexmark, and
able to print to the printer, but I aways get this
sequence of events with the plug-and-play feature of XP.
Any ideas as to what I can do to stop this annoyance?
