"plug and play configuration error --- hit F1 to continue"

help. i keep getting this error and it causes severe
screen resolution problems. i can't fix screen res via
control panel, i've installed windows xp service pak, and
ran virus scan. all ok but still have problem....
 
Is this an error that comes from your System BIOS (i.e. it appears before
Windows starts)? You should check with your computer manufacturer for
assistance; you may need a BIOS update.
