Please walk me through why IE 6 doesn't try to remember all passwords

I don't have the best memory for my passwords, and I try to use
different passwords for different sites. My preferred browser,
Netscape/Mozilla, remembers passwords for just about any site I visit.

For some reason though, IE6 more often than not won't offer to
remember a password. Sometimes it does, but it usually doesn't.

In content : autocomplete in my preferences, I have every box checked:

- web addresses
- forms
- user names and passwords on forms
-- prompt me to save passwords

But probably on only about a quarter of the sites that Netscape helps
me with passwords, does IE 6 make the offer.

How do I correct this? I presume that IE is the first browser most
sites are designed for. I really don't want to clear my passwords.
Does IE offer a way to individually examine and manage the password
settings for individual sites the way Netscape does?

When you delete your temp internet files do you also delete your cookies? I
believe if you do then it also deletes your passwords.

Sometimes sites are set up specifically to defeat that option. I know that
eBay allows it, but Yahoo does not, and there is nothing that I know of that
will change that. You might want to create a spreadsheet to maintain your
websites, userid's and passwords. It is a real time saver, as you can just
copy from the spreadsheet and paste to the web forms.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestions. I can't imagine though that so many web
sites that have Netscape remember the password don't have IE do it,
especially since IE is the most common browser. Heck, a lot of those
sites that use Netscape for passwords don't even work right in
Netscape once I'm in because of javascript or other errors.

Last night, I tried deleting my default.pwl file (renaming it
actually), per a suggestion here. I also deleted the intelliform
registry key related to password lists and restarted the machine.
Neither of those did anything.

Both before and after doing the above, I had another problem that it
seems many other users have had. I tried clearing the passwords
through the preferences (since I'd renamed the .pwl file anyway) and
IE just hung there. I never saw a resolution listed for this one for
anyone else who asked, so I'll ask now - why won't clearing my
passwords through the IE options work?

And of course my original problem hasn't yet gone away either.
