Please wait while Windows installs Microsoft Office

I am having difficulty finding or getting answers to this problem. I have
posted on other groups but get no replies. At this point I am nearly at wits
end. Will someone please tell me if anything can be done about this problem.

I have been using AccessXP and the rest of Office 2003. After updating to
Access 2003 when starting Access I receive a message, "Please wait while
Windows configures Microsoft Office 2003". I have read that this may have
something to do with the MRU list or SP2 for office. However, I have created
a new shortcut and still receive the message. This does not happen with any
of the other office applications. Is there a registry key that can be
changed? I have tried to read all I can on the subject but, at this point
none of the articles seem to have helped. Please let me know if anyone has a
solution.

Thanks,
Barry Elson

This is mostly trial and error. I would recommend uninstalling all of Office
2003, including Access 2003, then reinstalling them. You should be able to
reinstall Access 2003 without reinstalling Access XP. If the install disk is
an upgrade disk, it will ask for Access XP, but you should be able to just
show it the Access XP CD then continue the install.

I have had the same problem, but it seems to be associated
with the net.

That is, it usually occurs while surfing. I suspect the web site
is requesting some new feature that hasn't been installed as
part of the default installation.

In these cases I've been leery of inserting the disks since I
am not sure that I want a feature that the web site wants, but
I haven't installed (i.e., viruses, spam, spyware, etc. -- think
I'm paranoid? You don't know the half of it ! )

Thanks, I have tried to uninstall and reinstall several time now. I am
afraid that a registry entry is neglected in the process. My version is a
full version of Office 2003. This is enough to make one more than a little
whacky!

Is it the DAO portion it is trying to configure? If so, look in your
Add/Remove programs for a DAO entry. If it is there, uninstall it. It was
probably put there by the Multimedia Center setup from ATI. You have to
install it to properly install the MMC, the package that has the DAO has
other items you need also. But with Office and Access installed, I've been
able to remove it after I was done with the ATI setup. The Add/Remove
programs entry only removes the DAO part, not the other items that are
installed with it.

Thanks again for the reply. The message is just as I said in my original
message. It is devoid of any particular module being updated and is very
generic in it's appearance. I don't have an ATi video card or any portions
thereof from any other installations that I can find in Add/Remove Software.
Again, launching Access by any means I can find starts the installation
process. As I have mentioned, the articles I have read to this point, point
a finger at the MRU list.
Thanks again,
Barry

Sorry for posting without any useful information to share.

I just wanted to say that I also have problems with access constantly
reinstalling itself, just in case it adds any weight to the argument.
