Hi, I don't want to use the internal update function in the Windows XP,
could you please recommend one free application software for installing
updates? I used WU tools before, but found that is not so good. So please
recommend another one

And why ever not? How do you know that the updates you might get from a
third-party application are not full of malware, spyware and other nasties?

Microsoft is clamping down on such things, Autopatcher used to be one of the
best IMHO, but they were issued a cease and desist.

Why? Is there some reason?

If this is for some WGA issue, it's not just the Windows Update site that
want this; at least some of the updates check for this.

Easy. Go to Internet Explorer, Tools, Windows Update.

I can't think of any I would recommend. It's not a good idea to get
updates from a 3rd party.

If you don't want the automatic updates feature, turn it off, and go to the
WU site and use Custom to choose the updates you want.

Hi, I don't want to use the internal update function in the Windows XP,

You are making a serious error here. In fact, that's the only tool you
*should* use. Anything else entails the severe risk of your
downloading updates that are not legitimate.

Updates are availble from third party sources, but personally, I'd never
even try them out.

your free to turn off
your auto updates
and you are free not
to bother downloading
any of them as well.

for the most part no
one really knows what
all gets downloaded and
not all updates are absolutely
necessary.

i recall that "critical" update
which turned out to be
that wga.

it was discovered because
it turned out to be poorly
written spyware disguised
as an update and it made
false positives which in turn
disabled many windows
that were actually licensed
and valid:
