Hi Susan,

The XP CD should have all the files it needs. Try to clean it, maybe
what you need is to perform a clean install of Windows XP.

Or if you want to perform a repair install:

Good luck

My new Dell is experiencing problems and I need to reload XP, however Dell did not send me a Product Key with the disk. They were little help, only referring me to call MicroSoft. I ran a search for *lic and did not find the Product Key. Can anyone help me out?

Try looking on the tower for a sticker with the key on it.

Greetings --

Have you even bothered to look at your PC? If you purchased a PC
from Dell with an OEM license of WinXP included, then your Product Key
is on a label affixed to the side, or rear, of the PC.

The Windows 25-character Product Key (required to perform the
installation) is stored on the CD packaging on a bright orange sticker
that says "Do not lose this number." If it was an OEM (factory
installed) license, it's stored on a label that the PC manufacturer
affixed to the exterior of the PC case, or on the bottom of a laptop.

To recover a lost Product Key:

If your system still runs, you should be able to use Belarc
Advisor from http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html to find the
Product Key. (If you have a factory-installed OEM license, and
haven't since reinstalled the OS, the revealed Product Key is probably
of the drive image used at the factory and not _your_ specific Product
Key; therefore, it probably cannot be -- and definitely should not
be -- used for a re-installation.)

If it was a retail license and you have proof of purchase:

If it was an OEM license, you should contact whomever sold you the
PC; although very few manufacturers/vendors keep records of the
Product Keys they've sold, it's worth a try before you have to buy a
new license.

Hi Sam,

If your Dell PC is new, then you do not need the PK to reload windows, as
the installation CD is BIOS locked, and should install without having to
enter the key. In any case, the sticker with that key in on the side of your
PC.

If you have had problems with your PC, you should contact Dell, as they will
help you with your problems.
