PLEASE! I'M DESPERATE!!

I have posted this question and asked around ALL day. I can't believe there
isn't some smart computer person out there who can figures this out.
Interestingly enough, I have seen this same problem posted out there and no
one responded to those people either.

Here it is again:
I am trying to load my lotus 123 program and keep getting two errors:
1. "cannot find commdlg.dll"
2. "cannot find c:\lotsuite\smartctr\smartctr.exe
However, when I run a search of the hard drive, I do see the commdlg.dll in
a few directories (system, system32, smartsuit)

I also see the smartctr.exe file in the c:\lotsuite\smartctr directory.
Why is it telling me these files cannot be found?? And why can't I run
lotus??
Help!!!

What version of Lotus (or Smartsuite) are you trying to install/load?

You might have better luck on a Lotus newsgroup.

Have you tried Google?

Your path is obvious wrong for an install, it is looking on
the C: drive. This might be because you have an upgrade CD
and do not have the program already installed.

Another thought, you might have an OEM version and it is
looking for a file placed on the computer by the computer
OEM.

Try using the compatibility wizard incorporated into WindowsXP and install it in a Windows98 environment. It might not like the XP environment.

Isn't Lotus123 an old spreadsheet application?

Why are you so desparate to use an antiquated (albeit very functional)
application?

I suspect that you are not so desparate to pay for help?

If you are prepared to pay for help, buy an crossgrade version of Excel?

I suspect this error coming from and not Lotus. commdlg.dll is "common
dialog" and holds all the common dialog screens, e.g. file open et. al.

Did it ever work? If, so, do you know what changed?

Is there a "path" to where these files are located? Perhaps by entering
a path co c:\lotsuite\smartctr\smartctr.exe it will work.

Read how to add a folder to the path environment variable in XP's help.
Search for "path environemnt variable" and read artcile on "path" and
on "setting environment variables".

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.
