have been recording shows from tv and would like to edit the commercials
out before burning to dvd.
I went to best buy and they told me I could do it through movie maker, but I
don't know how to get the files over here.
I'm sooooo confused...Please help!

You'd probably get better Movie Maker advice at
Jiffy Lube than you would at Best Buy. ;-)

Did you record the TV shows using Media Center,
or some other software? The answer to your
question depends upon the video format used
to capture/encode the video.

lol @ Jiffy lube. Maybe I should have checked there...I do happen to need my
oil changed as well ;)

I used the Media Center to record the tv show directly from cable.

Movie Maker 2.1 doesn't support the Microsoft Recorded TV
format (DVR-MS). So you would need to use some other
3rd party appliction that does support that format.

Some programs you might want to try (listed in no particular
order) include InterVideo WinDVD Creator, Sonic MyDVD,
CyberLink PowerDirector, and Nero NeroVisionExpress.

If you already have a DVD authoring program, it might
already support DVR-MS. So give it a try first.

The Recorded TV files are stored by default in:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Shared Documents\Recorded TV

Since the stated goal is to burn the shows to
DVD, it would be better to just use a DVD authoring
program that supports the file format, and do it all
in one step. That way you're only reencoding
the video once, instead of THREE times.

It will take much less time, and the DVD
video quality will be better. :)
