Please Help

Whenever I go to install any new program on my computer I
receive the Error 1931 message WINNT\System32\mfc42.dll is
protected and system needs to be updated for program to
install

I posted this problem earlier in the week and the answer
received gave me no help -

Thought I'd try again - am desperate to install a new
program

In order for us to be able to help you better, can you
provide some additional information?
are you running windows NT, 2000, XP?
Did you upgrade to XP from 2000 or NT?
What program are you trying to install?
Please reply and we will continue to research.

Windows xp - home - installed when I bought computer a
year ago. I have tried to install a Scrapbook program
and Norton's Internet Security and received the same
message
