mfc42.dll

When trying to open any of a number of programs or system logs I get an error
"The file mfc42.dll is incorrectly installed in the Windows folder and should
be deleted." What is the best way to resolve?

I tried "Start | Run, sfc /scannow" but got a message to insert my WinXP
Home CD. My XP came installed on my system and I do not have Win XP Home
CD's. The System Recovery CD's do not sataisfy the request.

How do I resolve the missing mfc42.dll issue without a XP CD

That file has to be located in the %windir%\System32 folder! Make sure
that this is the case, next:

Start > Run: REGSVR32 %windir%\System32\MFC42.DLL

If there is success message, reboot and delete the copy of MFC42.DLL in
the \Windows folders.

Thanks Detlev, you got me on the right track. mfc42.dll was missing in
windows\system32 but I searched and found it in my documents of all places.
I copied it into system32 and then got a new error for another dll file. I
found it in system32\dllcache. Again, I copied into system32 and now all
seems better. Thanks.
