Please help with ideas for modem solutions....

I am tired of the efax lousy performance (or lack there of!) I am looking to
go to a FAX/MODEM, but I need to figure out how with my setup.

I have a laptop (run it from down stairs, where there is not a close by
phone jack) I use 802.11a/b/g to get to the net. My router is near a phone
line. I also have my kids computer hardwired to the access point (dlink),
but this system is rarely on.

What would be a decent way for me to have access to a modem, with out
directly connecting one to my laptop, and not requiring my kids system to be
on all of the time?
Are there any modems that have 802.11a/b/g capability?
Are there any modems that hook direcly to an ethernet port?
Are there any 802.11a/b/g routers/ access points that have builit in modem
or a RJ-11 connector for a modem?
I did see a Brother multi Function machine that would allow wireless
connection and it had a built in FAX, but I was hoping for something not
quite so sophisticated (I already have a printer upstairs (new HP photo
printer from Santa)

I would like to stay (hopefully) under 200 for the solution (yes, the
brother was under 200, barely)

I posted a few weeks back, and I was given an idea of using a Remote
telephone jack (plugs into a AC outlet to give you a phone connection) and a
modem, how ever, this proved to be un reliable.

Thanks
Bruce

The USB-Bluetooth adapter is just an example. That particular one is Class 2. If
you want the full advertised range of the modem, then get a Class 1 USB to Bluetooth
adapter.

Is wiring your basement with a new phone jack out of the question?

To me, that still appears to be the least expensive and most reliable
option. $15 dollars in parts, a half an hour, and you have a fast and
convenient fax that does not have to contend with the vagaries of a
wireless net.

Grinder,

Thank you for your idea and agree with you, but I have a slab floor and not
easy access to the outside walls (sunroom on the other side) and to do any
wire routing inside, I would have to cut up the wall. That is why I am
looking for something wireless. During my next remodel project, I am
planning on adding phone lines to the lower floor (there is only 1 jack down
here and the house is only 8 yrs old!) I will probably put cat 5 in as well.
But that is down the road a few years

Thanks
Bruce
