Receiving faxes on your computer is problematic at best. It can be done but
it is simpler using the following free service:
www.efax.com. It's quite convenient, the receive the faxes for you and send
them to you by e-mail. NOTE, while they do provide you with a fax number,
usually only their pay service provides a toll free number in your area.
Aside from that I've found this service to be quite useful. If I don't
happen to be at my computer or I'm out and someone tells me they need to fax
me information, I can just give them the number, they fax it to that number
and when I return to my computer and check my e-mail it's usually there.
You can test the speed by sending yourself a fax to the number eFax provides
for you. It offers many advantages over trying to receive a fax through
your PC none the least of which is the convenience of not having to have
your PC turned on and/or making sure your own phone line is not busy.
