Please help! Regarding reading a new message (may seem trivial)

Where is the feature/option that adjusts the amount of time a message is
displayed before marking it as a read message?

I'm reading a message in the preview pane and the enveleope is still in the
system tray! And it doesn't go away until i click on a read message!

Where is the "marked message as read after X seconds" feature?
