Outlook marks messages "read" when rule moves new message to a fol

I have many rules in Outlook 2007 to move email to various folders after the
email arrives.

The problem I have is that most often this email is marked as read when the
message is moved- even though I have never viewed it in the viewing pane or
autopreview (I currently have a "new item alert," but I would like to get rid
of this).

How can I change the settings so that messages move remain "unread" until I
read them in their allocated folder.

Ordinarily, Outlook does not mark incoming messages as read when moving them
by rule to another folder unless you specifically adfd the "mark as read"
action to the rule. I suspect what you see is the result of gmail's handling
of the message.

Thank you for responding.

I solved the issue by eliminating move to folder rules in Outlook and
creating "Filters" In GMail.

Furthermore this means all email, whether it be forwarded to either of my
PCs or iPhone will have the messages sorted.

In hindsight- a no brainer.
