PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

Hi, I'm having issues on my computer. I am running Windows XP SP2. I am
unable to open any kind of help files, when I try to I get the...(whatever
help file I am opening) encountered a problem and needed to close. Also, I
am unable to open McAfee Virus Scan. It just does nothing. No errors or
anything. Also when I am running AOL I get a message stating that there is
not enough memory or hard disk space to perform the suggested action. I have
an 80 gig hard drive that is new and it has 65 gigs of free space. And I
have 256mb of memory. For the last 2 days I get an error when I start my
computer says Generic Host Process for Win32 Services encountered a problem
and needed to close.

Steps I have taken to resolve these issues:

I have ran 2 different spyware programs to clean system of spyware. I am
unable to scan for Virus with McAfee, but I have scanned with Panda
Software's ActiveScan and it didn't find any viruses. I have delete McAfee
Virus Scan and McAfee Security Center.

Does anyone have any suggests as to what my problem is or what I can do to
resolve these issues?

PLEASE HELP ME!!!

1st,in this day and age,256mb of ram is marginal,512mb is about the minimal.
With mcafee you dont specify which one youre runnung, however go to thier
site, downloads, get all updates for youre version.Sometimes a search engine (
msn.com or google will get you to mcafee updates easier. With help files,do
you mean help/support wont open from xps start menu...In all, alot of
performance
will be gained, and alot of problems will go away with more ram memory....

Sad to say so, but it's recommended to buy more RAM. You propably know that
64 is minimum, and reccomended requirements start with 128 megabytes of RAM.
Of course we all know that it's funny. Usually XP "eats" about 235 megabytes
of RAM (with all services running). If I were U, I wouldn't install SP2,
unless U need it. I hope that U created restore point or try uninstall sp2
with 3rd party software or increase the size of a pagefile, if U have 256
RAM set about 800, and check if it works. If not, back to the restore point
(or 3rd p.s) or (this is the best solution) buy another 256 of RAM (or if U
can: more).

Help it will help.

You have the makings of what appears to be a virus.. I say this because all
of your security features and help have been disabled..

RE. RAM, it could do with increasing, but I do NOT believe that this is the
root cause of your problem.. also, there are many users trundling along with
256mb quite happily..

Regardless of what you have done so far, go through the procedure below..

OK.. start by turning OFF the System Restore function.. click on the Start
button.. right click on 'My Computer', then select Properties.. now select
the 'System Restore' tab..

Check the box "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all
drives".. now click on 'Apply'.. you will be asked if it is ok to lose all
restore points.. answer YES to this.. now click on 'OK'

Run a 'one shot' virus remover.. I have found that McAfee Stinger works for
people.. download and run it..

http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/

Another alternative is ..

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

You will also need to download Spyware removal software.. Spybot and Adaware
are available at these websites.. both are free.. download and run them..
don't forget to check for updates after you have started them..

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

.... and this link is for the latest Microsoft helping..

http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

Spybot has the ability to immunize a system, but there is better for this
function, so download and run Spyware Blaster too.. again, check for
updates..

http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/

Time to turn ON System Restore.. this is obviously like turning it OFF, so
just reverse the procedure..

If you have had your Internet browser hijacked, that is to say, you get
redirected through a search engine NOT of your choosing, you will need
different tools..
HijackThis is a popular and effective tool.. download it from here..

http://www.spychecker.com/download/download_hijackthis.html

CWShredder will eliminate CoolWebSearch and variants.. there is a free
download here..

You must also run a firewall and anti-virus program.. here are some links
for you..

I am running Windows XP SP2.

Was that SP2 integrated in Windows XP ? I had the similar problem, my
friend made SP2 integrated to the WinXP SP1 but he obviously made some
mistake ... or maybe it's a common problem with certain versions ?
Possible solution : Install plain WinXP, or WinXP with integrated SP1 and
after that you install SP2

Sure, dump Windoze and get GNU/Linux. You'll then be able to stop worrying
about trojans, viruses and spyware and make use of your computer. Time to
move up from a Nintendo to a real computer. You won't be sorry. I did and
it is the best move I ever made.

Thank You. I have been to McAfee help and support and received the links to
their updates. But I was using the McAfee Virus Scan made eligible to me
through AOL. The links that I received from them was for a different version
or something cause they did not help at all.
Yes, I am unable to open the help files via the start menu.

I agree completely with Mike and add that after downloading the a/v &
a/sw programs he mentioned and updating them all then start up in Safe
Mode to scan with them for problems. Safe Mode will keep most (if not
all) memory resident portions of malware from executing at startup and
possibly hiding from or disabling the scans.

Can you tell me what was that answer\lecture you gave on Ram. What did it
have to do with the issue that the OP posted

Please, no SMS talk here, this is a newsgroup.
That is VERY bad advice - SP2 is not only a major security update but also
re-writes hundreds of thousands of lines of code. The reasoning should be:
"install SP2 UNLESS you know that you can't run software with it". It's not
just your computer that you are protecting and updating, it's the
interaction with all the other computers on the internet as well.
