Please Help me with my Java Problem

Hi, A couple of months ago I had to re-install Windows XP because it was messing up on me and wouldn't let me on the net. Well anyways, it deleted Java from my comp. as well and I have no idea how to get it back on my computer. I need it for the things that I do. Everytime that I go to java.com to download the new version it says:

"This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package.

Could someone please help me put on this? I don't understand what it means and/or what to do about it

Thanks so much

Try downloading the appropriate version to your hard drive...from the
following URL. Then double-click on it.

http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_manual.jsp

But first take a look in Control Panel, under ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS, and
remove any JAVA programs shown there.

Ok Thanks. I will go and do that now.

BTW, I went to the control panel, Add/Delete programs and it doesn't have anything about Java in there.

Thanks!
