Please Help me wake up my laptop from a Vista's beauty sleep

Hi, before I state my problem to you good people I would like to introduce
you to my system. I have Acer Aspire 5684 WLMi laptop with 1.83 Ghz Intel
Core 2 Duo, Nvidia GeForce Go 7600, 2 GB RAM. I used to have Windows XP
installed on it, but I have installed Vista Ultimate now. Updated all the
drivers i could think of and those that were available on the acer support
website for vista. This icludes me updating the BIOS and Graphics card to the
latest version. I also have installed Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0.2.621.
Now, about my problem with Vista. I can't seem to get my laptop to wake up
from the sleep mode. Whats happens is that when I either leave my laptop idle
for certain period of time and the sleeping mode kicks in or when I manually
put it into sleeping mode, it seems that it enters the sleeping mode because
the fan slows down, my power light changes to amber and the screen goes
black. But when I either press any key or the Sleep button the laptop seems
to be waking up because the power light changes to green, the fans kicks in
sometimes, the DVD-ROM makes a detecting sound for a bit and the hard drive
light flashes couple of times, but the screen stays black. So at this stage
to get out of this I have to harshly switch off my laptop by pressing the
power button for a couple of seconds.

I have no idea what could be causing this problem, if any one has any
suggestions I would greatly appreciate your help.

Thank you.

check in our device manager for your keyboard/trackpad/mouse to see if "Allow
device to wake up computer" something like that.

Yeah every thing is fine there, my keyboard and mouse bring the computer out
of sleep as the power light changes to green from amber, but the screen
satyed balck. Now what i have done last night is reinstalled the windows
fresh again, and the sleep mode worked untill I installed the MS Office 2007,
so i think that could be the source of the problem. What I'm going to do is
to unistall MS Office 2007 and see if the problem goes away and reinstall it
to see whether it still causes problems. Once I've done that I will post some
info here, but I can't see why would MS Office cause such problems.

Thanks

I thought I didn't have the same problem, but what do you know.

I have the same problem too, but only occasionally. Most of the time the
hotkeys on my keyboard stops working, I have a toshiba notebook. At times, I
would have a shutdown or restart problem after coming out from sleep or
hibernation. The computer would hang. When I had the black screen problem, I
did notice that the computer was still functioning, just with no display
output.

I haven't reinstalled because I just did! and will not do it again, I am
quite fussy on my configurations and do not have the time to do them all over
again. I have office 2007 installed too, any news?

you guys use readyboost?
