I have a Sony CMR PC3 and I have problem to make a good video with this
camera. The picture freese and will make a new picture after about 30
seconds.

I have win XP home edition. 256 Mb ram.

Have you checked the Sony site for updated software and drivers. Or, do you
mean you can make the video but when you view the video, it freezes? If
that's the case, we don't have enough information. Does your graphics card
share memory with main system memory. If yes, it doesn't matter how much
memory your system has, if your graphics card does not have memory of its
own, that's the issue and you need to replace such a card with a card that
has its own memory, in this case, I would recommend a card with around 128MB
of ram as what you are doing is very memory intensive.

The "Turtle Beach Santa Cruz" is a sound card, not a video card. Open
Control Panel/System/Hardware Tab/Device Manager Button. Expand the Display
Adapter item and you will see the information for the video card.

Web cams take a lot of bandwidth, which means set your
camera and sound to small frame size, 320x240 and a low
refresh rate, set the sound to a low bit-rate. If you are
on a dial up, one picture every few seconds is all you can
send, on a fast broadband you might be able to send several
frames a second. It is a matter of total bandwidth vs. what
you are trying to send.

I have Broadband, but I cannot find anywere on options were I can set
refreshrate on the webcam. There should not be problem with my connection to
the net.I have 150Kb out, and 750 kb in.
I have tried to have a smaller picture, but it dint help me.

You can send 150 KB out per second, which is not really very
much...
a 640x480 screen is about 30 KB for each frame, plus your
audio which could be higher than that. If you are trying to
send several frames per second and audio and get some
return, you will run out of bandwidth, the computer will
freeze as it tries to either send the data or recompute and
send what the pipe can carry.

What software do you use for the web chat, have you looked
to see what option are there?
Have you looked at the camera properties and sound/audio?
Have you tried the FAQ from the webcam mfg'r?

I am using 320 x 240 for the poicture.
I cannot find any FAQ for sony´s web cam. So If I cannot find any solution I
am oing to buy me a new one.
It does not help to set down the framerate either.
I use MSN Messenger 6.1 to chat with.

You might want to try a different program, such as
Netmeeting.

Picture: Brightness
contrast
Hue

Backlight
Picturemute
Flickerless
Mode:Framerate
colour space

I dont think netmeeting is compatible with XP. I have tried to find a new
one, but on microsoft I cannot find a new one. I have heard that it is
incorporated in msn messenger

Flickerless probably means a higher frame rate, shutter
speed may be frame rate, output size should be self evident.
Does your web cam software have a HELP?

Netmeeting is part of XP, look in Windows/program files. It
has settings for audio and video, tools /options advanced
on each.

Hi Morten,

Netmeeting is certainly compatible with WinXP, it's already on the system.
Simply start/run "conf.exe" to initialize setup.
