Please help me. I'm an idiot.

I accidentally deleted some files that I really need (from Recycle Bin,
too!). No I didn't keep a backup. Like I said, I'm an idiot.

I heard a rumour you can "roll back" mistakes like this somehow, you can "go
back in time" to a previous system state? Is this true?

I've got Windows XP Professional.

What a bad day I'm having.

Oh dear.

Thanks,
Owen

Have you tried a 'system restore', to get to it, click on start, help
and support center, under Pick a task, choose Undo changes to your
computer with System Restore.

Click on Restore my computer to an earlier time.

Pick a restore point prior to when you deleted the needed files.

Thanks Brad, I have tried System Restore but it seemed only to restore the
folder, not the files within it! It seems that System Restore doesnt help
with ordinary data files, documents, etc. in that way.

What happened originally was, I un-installed a program, the uninstall was
crappy and left the program's folder in place with a load of files. So I
deleted them (to keep things tidy). I also emptied the recycle bin (for
the same reason). Then, I realised I'd deleted a folder full of my
files.... ooops!

I've no excuse, I should've backed up. I will look into Scheduling regular
backups to CD-RW if I can work out how.

Brad;
System Restore is not intended to protect personal data so your
suggestion will not work.
See this link for more about system Restore:

Bill Gates the 33rd

Owen;
Go to www.google.com , search for rest2514.exe , download it and run the
program. It will restore the files if they are restoreable at all.

Owen: Did the advice from "Bill Gates the 33rd" help you? ... He said to go
to www.google.com, search for rest2514.exe, download it and run the program.
He said it would restore the files if they were restorable at all. ..... The
reason I'm asking is, I have the same problem that you have, or hopefully,
had! .... Hope
