please help me,a strange DVD writer problem

I have an inspiron 510m dell laptop (1.6 GHz Centrino), i bought LG
IDE DVD super multi
(Model : GSA-4167B) , i connected it to usb port of the laptop through
IDE to USB cable , and external power adapter ,it work properly with
CDs (read and burn) , but can't burn dvds
and issue errors ,i tried many dvd disks but no way,however the dvd
burner work properly with dvds when connect it to desktop computer
internally throught IDE cable , i updated the firmware of the burner
but no way .
the error of the burning operation as follows:

I have an inspiron 510m dell laptop (1.6 GHz Centrino), i bought LG
IDE DVD super multi
(Model : GSA-4167B) , i connected it to usb port of the laptop through
IDE to USB cable , and external power adapter ,it work properly with
CDs (read and burn) , but can't burn dvds
and issue errors ,i tried many dvd disks but no way,however the dvd
burner work properly with dvds when connect it to desktop computer
internally throught IDE cable , i updated the firmware of the burner
but no way .
the error of the burning operation as follows:

i checked the properties in devise manager and found that the primary
and secondary ports are in DMA enabled mode , but DVD drive properties
dosenot include any mention about the mode (i connected it through the
IDE/USB cable)

i checked the properties in devise manager and found that the primary
and secondary ports are in DMA enabled mode , but DVD drive properties
dosenot include any mention about the mode (i connected it through the
IDE/USB cable)


USB I forgot that you mentioned the conversion....how long of a USB cable
are you using? Quality?

I have an inspiron 510m dell laptop (1.6 GHz Centrino), i bought LG
IDE DVD super multi
(Model : GSA-4167B) , i connected it to usb port of the laptop through
IDE to USB cable , and external power adapter ,it work properly with
CDs (read and burn) , but can't burn dvds
and issue errors ,i tried many dvd disks but no way,however the dvd
burner work properly with dvds when connect it to desktop computer
internally throught IDE cable , i updated the firmware of the burner
but no way .

One thing I noticed in the log, was the "Prassi" entry at the
end of the log. Prassi makes burning software, meaning there
is more than one burner package on the machine. Maybe the
Prassi driver was present from long ago. I don't know if
this is related to the problem or not. But it is a bit
suspicious.

The log shows the drive returning a media error, soon
after Nero tries to program it. I don't know where you
go to get sense codes, to figure out what happened.
Presumably, you'd need access to the SCSI CDB being
sent to the drive (the control/data block), to figure
out what command was sent, and what error code was
created in response.

I had problems with Nero, when some virtual CD mounting
software was also present. I got the weirdest symptoms,
where the drive I was using, would freeze up the machine.
But once I figured out by accident, that the other software
was present on the machine, all returned to normal after
the virtual CD software was disabled. So this could be
interaction with another piece of software.

Nero won't burn to many external drives. They claim its the usb chip in
the drive's enclosure. This seems like complete shit to me, considering
SilentNight Micro 2 (free) will burn DVDs using the same enclosures, as
well as DVD-Decrypter, etc. However, Alcohol 120, Nero, and other big
names won't...they all have ASPI errors.

i uninstalled nero then installed SilentNight Micro , and start to
burn with it then but it issues an error message "access violation to
address ...... in module oleaut.dll "

I would reinstall your USB drivers or update them.......

Look in add/remove programs for a program called prassi, that driver note in
your log file seems incorrect if you never installed it. Prassi was packaged
with many writers and sometimes people think that its a 'driver' of some
kind and install it without realizing what it is.

One thing I noticed in the log, was the "Prassi" entry at the
end of the log. Prassi makes burning software, meaning there
is more than one burner package on the machine. Maybe the
Prassi driver was present from long ago. I don't know if
this is related to the problem or not. But it is a bit
suspicious.

The log shows the drive returning a media error, soon
after Nero tries to program it. I don't know where you
go to get sense codes, to figure out what happened.
Presumably, you'd need access to the SCSI CDB being
sent to the drive (the control/data block), to figure
out what command was sent, and what error code was
created in response.

I had problems with Nero, when some virtual CD mounting

was present on the machine, all returned to normal after
the virtual CD software was disabled. So this could be

Paul's trick sounds sensible. My first thought along these lines was
that you have failed to turn off anti-virus and anti-spyware apps before
attempting to burn any sort of disk.

have you tried it on another system without installing any of the
drivers/software that came with it? In other words, try it on another
system with micro2 and report back.

Thanks all so much ,
the problem is solved , the problem were in the sony dvds it looks to
be not compatible whith my drive when used externally by ide/usb
converter ,however it works well when the drive used internally
when i used princo dvds , it works well .
i am sorry because i waste your time and thanks very much.
