Please Help Fix My XP Crash Problem

My computer running Win XP keeps crashing when I try to run a program, and
then reboots Windows. I get a very similar message every time, but I don't
know what the actual problem is, let alone how to solve it. Please help if
you can.

Here are the files involved in the error report from Windows:

C:\DOCUME~1\HP_ADM~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER15f1.dir00\Mini101107-02.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\HP_ADM~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER15f1.dir00\sysdata.xml

Thanks.

Unfortunately the names of those files is completely meaningless
information.

Go to Control Panel, System, Advanced, Startup and Recovery, and on the
System Failure section de-select "automatically restart".

This won't fix anything but will stop the system from just rebooting, and
will halt it at the blue screen. You can then get the STOP error code and
the text that immediately follows it, and post that here.

Also, what is the program that's causing the crash? Is it a specific
program or anything at all? If it's one specific program, use the STOP
error code at the publisher's support site.

This has not been caused by one specific program.

Here is the blue screen STOP error message:

nv4_disp.dll- Address BFA280e0 base at BF9D5000, DateStamp 46ee3c9a

That's an nVidia display driver. You'll probably need to change versions,
and check with nVidia support.

Also, there is a STOP error number, such as Ox00007E. That's important.

I have been talking to the NVidia guys, but no luck so far. The stop error
number appears to be 0x0000008E.

You may need to change the video driver, and not necessarily to a newer
version. Sometimes older versions are stabler. Also check for firmware
for the card itself.

I had a NV4_disp.dll error that went into infinite loop (the blue screen of
death.) You need to uninstall and then reinstall you nVidia driver. It is
free from the nVidia website. Remove the program at the control pannel
(add/remove) program then reinstall it from the nVidia site. Microsoft didnt
help me much, but Dell fixed it for me.

Since the message you are replying to is almost 2 months old, you should
make your own post and state the details of the problem. Please try to
be as specific as possible as to what happens and what you have tried to
do to fix the problem.
