Hi all - Have installed a new a64 4400 x2 cpu - overclocks really well but
have had a couple of issues with XP Pro - trying to do a clean install but I
cannot get my system to see floppy (not normally installed) - its a new fdd
and powers up on booting but thats as far as it gets - this is a pain as I
have a sata hdd which needs drivers installed for the clean xp install to
see hdd!!!

Are there any work arounds - I'm hoping not to buy a new mobo!

current mobo is msi k8n diamond sli nf4 939...

The floppy cable only installs one way and will not work if reversed
You should have a ribbon cable with a twist on one end. The end
without the twist is attached to the floppy controller. Then, attach
the connector after the twist to floppy drive. Check your BIOS to make
sure the drive is enabled.

Your cable has a twist. Most don't!

The important thing to remember is that the wire with the red trace goes to
pin number one.

Unless you are setting up a raid you should not need a floppy. And don't
cross post.

You could make a bootable CD.

The windows XP CD is bootable.

His problem is that he has a SATA drive controller that needs a driver for a
sata Hard derive. He could try putting the driver on a cd and see if he the
WINXP CD install will see it on his CD drive

then again I just noticed he has an NF4 motherboard so he doesn't need to
add a driver so long as he uses the NF4 SATA ports in IDE (single drive)
mode. Windows XP has no problem installing that way

It's not a hard mistake for an NF4 rookie to make. I think I know someone
;-) who made this same mistake the first time he had an NF4 board. In his
;-) case he just used the floppy and installed on the Si3114 ports

If your current floppy drive is borked, try either a USB floppy or a
USB flash drive that supports floppy mode.
