Playing Quicktime Format Files

N

NJITGS

Would anyone happen to know why when I attemp to play video files in the
..MOV format with QT player from my secondary internal hard drive I get error
messages?

I have two hard drives in my computer one that's 160Gb used for XP and other
programs and the other is 250Gb used as a mass storage drive that I keep all
my videos on. When I browse to one of the QT .MOV files it gives me an
error message.

Seasons best!

This is the error message that I get when attempting to open QT .MOV files
from my secondary internal hard drive that is used as a mass storage device.
Sorry I didn't post it in my first request.

Couldn't open the file "138810" because an unknown error occurred. The
number of the error is: -8971

Will the file play if you copy it to a local partition?

Have you tried the Quicktime support site.

No. I have tried to copy it to my desktop and it still wont play from there
either.

Thanks

No, I just uninstalled and reinstalled the 6.5.2 version that is currently
on my system. I will get back to you with the results.

Thanks!

Seems to be more of a quicktime problem.

How old are the files, and what type. Sometimes quick time movies need
plugins if the movie file contains special instructions.

Very old quicktime movies may not be compatible with the latest versions.

Try renaming the file to something short.

Did you check the quicktime site?

What now?

Hi, and thanks again for your reply!

Changing the name and type of file to name.mov didn't do anything either, it
gave me the same error message.

When I opened it's properites, as opposed to some of the other QT movie
files on my computer, ie digital camera movies, where it says the type of
file the one that doesn't play indicates it as an MPEG-4, while the movies
made with my digital camera say QuickTime Moive as the file type in it's
properties.

According to when I open my QT player and clicking the drop down menu for
help and select "Update existing software" it tells me that my QT software
is up to date. If I'm not mistaken isn't the 7.2 version the one that
includes ITunes making it the only difference? -thats the impression I get.

Sounds like time to copy to a different computer to see if that machine can
read it. If it can't probably a corrupted file.

AFAIK Quicktime can handle mpeg 4, but I could be wrong. I don't use quick
time unless I need to.

If it is an mpeg 4 file you may be able to play it with windows media
player. The error message doesn't suggest a codec problem.

I think if you poke around the quicktime site you can find QT7 player and
codec only without itunes bundled.

Again I think this may be one for the apple/QT forums.

OK. I posted the message in this thread about the 6.5.2 version being the
latest after having searched the QT site without the bundle. Would you
happen to have the link or know what I can find the 7 version that does not
include the iTunes bundle?

Thank you.

When I downloaded QT7 the version on offer was bundled with iTunes, but
having a look now it seems if you follow the download links you are given
the choice between iTunes or no iTunes.

OK, here it is, this is the message that I am receiving when attempting to
play my QuickTime movies that were made with my Kodak EasyShare digital
camera:

Exception Processing Message c0000013 Prameters 75b6bf9c 4 75b6bf9c 75b6bf9c

[Cancel] [Try Again] [Continue]

Then when I click either of these exit options, this is what comes next:

"Could not open the file "100_7046.MOV" because the file was not found."

These files are not on the mass storage drive as I previously mentioned, I
was incorrect in stating that and upon further investigation I found that
they are on the C drive in the folders where the rest of my Kodak pictures
are on the primary hard drive.

Can anyone help?

Thank you again...

Did you install the Kodak software?

You might try the Kodak site, or google.

Unless someone here has has exactly the same problem with exactly the same
software, it's a bit of a licky dip.

I have read where some people keep clicking try again and eventually it
works.
