placing PC away from a desk.

Hi,

I am about to buy a desktop PC.

Is it possible to place PC away from the desk, like putting it in the
closet and somehow connecting either wirelessly or with a single long
wire to the monitor, keyboard and others. Maybe there is a device for
this type of connecting.

1. I do not want a Laptop, too expensive, hard to fix.
2. All in one PCs are expensive and very limited choice.

Thanks.

Good cables to do that can get expensive, but they can be bought.

Wireless USB docks exist as well.

Although - I'd just get a small computer and use it. (I bought a little
Viewsonic dual monitor capable, 160GB HDD, network, 2GB memory Core2Duo 2GHz
box just a little larger than a standard paperback novel for under $800 U.S.
and installed Windows 7 on it. Worked pretty good.)

Yes it is possible. For monitor, you need this:

You also need a wireless keyboard and mouse. For storage, you will be
able to save to your HD but you can also buy a portable HD that can be
hooked to your Wireless router via USB port. You could also store
online using Microsoft's SkyDrive <http://skydrive.live.com/>

You need to tell us how far away that closet is. Some USB runs can work
OK for quite a distance. Same with DVI or VGA (tell us which) cables.

You can always go with an item like this if you don't mind the cost:

Not practical! Cables are required to connect the video card to the
monitor. These are usually "bulky" and will always be in the way.

Yes, I was thinking a small PC might be the best bet, these dual core
Acers will cope with most uses other than gaming or video editing,
under 300 quid in the UK:-

hang it on the back of the monitor, wireless keyboard and mouse
included.

The unit may suffer with cooling problems if shut away in a closet. It will
also deposit a thin layer of dust on everything else within the closet. Not
a good idea..
