Rats and phooey. Seems to be a problem with my ISP - I can't get my email.

If you've sent a message and I haven't responded please resend it to
mailto:[email protected] - I've cleaned out the spam and will watch
that address for new messages.

We're on our way. :) :) :)

Ryno's downloaded the file and is seeding the torrent.

I think it would help a LOT to have more seeders ASAP. IOW - people who
download via HTTP and seed the torrent without downloading from it. Any
volunteers?

If you want to start downloading the PL2006 ISO via bit torrent:

1. download µTorrent (if you haven't already).
http://www.utorrent.com/
µTorrent 1.3 (115 KB)
http://www.utorrent.com/download/1.3/utorrent.exe

2. No installation is needed. Put the file where you want it and start it
running.

3. In the file menu select "add torrent from URL"

4. paste this URL into the URL box:

http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/ftp/PL2006_CDISO.iso.torrent

5. It may be several minute before uTorrent finds the download - be
patient.

My download is well on the way now. Many thanks to Susan and everybody who
helped put this together. Congratulations on getting to grips with
bittorrents. I will continue to seed for as long as is required. And thank
you for bringing uTorrent to my attention, it is much better than my
previous client, I am converted.

Yup. Email me for the HTTP download link - download the ISO (takes about
30 minutes with a high speed connection) and start ***seeding*** the
torrent instead of downloading from it. ;)
What do you mean with seeding ? Sorry, I use UTorrent for the frist time.

if the Http download link is not the one you setnt before, please send
it directly to my email address.

At least, the torrent is up and running, even if it's slow
Have to go to bed now.

The torrent with the http link or not, will run at least this week end.

ISP is sending email again :) so forget about Yahoo and use the links
button - mailto:[email protected]

I've given out all the download links I have ATM - when I hear back from
the downloaders I'll be able to send the links to someone else. One link
to one downloader for now so the ISO downloads go quickly and those
folks can start seeding the torrent ASAP.

Some people are starting uTorrent with a *complete* PL2006 ISO file that
they got by downloading the file from an HTTP link. Seeding means you
have the *entire* file and are uploading parts of it to other people.
if the Http download link is not the one you setnt before, please send
it directly to my email address.

Let's do that next year (PL2007) - since you're already downloading the
file via uTorrent.

It is nice, isn't it. Super easy to use - which I gather hasn't always
been the case with bit torrents.

I've been downloading off and on over the last few days as I tried to
figure out what to do and how to do it. To my astonishment I've already
downloaded most of the 637 MB ISO file - on a dial-up connection!!!
Guess I'll keep going now and get the whole thing.

I followed the procedure listed above. My computer is 'doing something'.
It reads: 637MB done 1.1% Downloading 3(3) seeds 2(23) peers Down speed
0.0 (now!!)
uploaded 768kB ratio 0.107 Avail 3.824 ... label ..

I've no idea what I'm doing.... ETA 15h 36mm .... it varies.... is now running
again....

If I can be of help, let me know how.

Not only easy - small and it doesn't install. Handy for thumb drives.
And it goes like blazes. I'm watching a 285kB/s download right now.

I'm not seeing some of that. . . maybe not looking in the same place. . .

"637 MB" is the size of the PL2006 CD's ISO file.
"done 1.1%" is the percentage of the file you have already downloaded
uploaded 768kB ratio 0.107 Avail 3.824 ... label ..

"uploaded 768 KB" You are both uploading and downloading. . .

"Avail 3.824" means three complete copies are available to download from
plus part of another - that's very good. :)
I've no idea what I'm doing.... ETA 15h 36mm .... it varies.... is now running
again....

"ETA" (estimated time of arrival) = that's when your download will be
complete, ETA changes as the speed of the download changes.

Hope that de-mystifies things a little bit. . .

me too - I just skimmed the FAQ here:
http://www.utorrent.com/faq.php
but didn't see anything that looked like the answer to your question.

OTOH, what I know about routers and ports would fit on the head of a pin
with *lots* of room left over *and* ATM I'm not at my brightest and best
- so maybe the answer is there. . .

I'll do some googling tomorrow if nobody's enlightened you before then.

That sounds good, Susan. It's still running. I'm going to sleep. I'll let it
continue running and check it tomorrow...or, ahh, later on today. Thanks. I'll
report back tomorrow.

In Utorrent click Options / Preferences / Netwrok Options
You can set your port there.
As for your router it depends on which one you have, and I'm hoping you know
how to do whatever one you do have :)

Thanks, Susan.

The utorrent is nice.

Once I get PL2006 downloaded, I'll be able to seed on this DSL practically
24/7.

Susan, everything's ok here. Uploading with 50 kb/s, and seeding and
seeding and seeding.

Have a nice week-end, and thanks for your work

Thanks, Susan.

The utorrent is nice.

Once I get PL2006 downloaded, I'll be able to seed on this DSL practically
24/7.

I don't think I'll bother with torrents again. The CD iso has at this
point in time been downloading for over fifteen hours. I have
downloaded 641 MB and uploaded 396 MB. The speed averaged in the range
of 1 to 20 KBps rather than the hundred+ I am used to. I do not know
what I did wrong or how the throughput can be improved. The same thing
happened using Bit Torrent at an earlier date. I thought at the time
it was due to the MTU being set too low. This experience has soured me
on the whole process.

I will leave my machine running as a seed to assist others. I am
uploading to a maximum of 70 KBps.
