Howdy Folks,

Is it possible to pivot text values in Excel? From what I can tell, the
answer to that is "no." However, I would imagine that scenarios that
require pivot tables that include text come up on a semi-regular basis.
How do you handle those occasions? Thanks in advance for any help.

Tom

You can do counts on text values in a pivot table, like counting all the
clients in a state or country.

If you're talking about mathematical functions on words like one hundred or
one the answer would be no.

I'm actually not looking to perform mathematical functions on the data,
although Excel insists upon it. I have groundwater chemistry results in
a database format that I want to convert into a more easily-read
cross-tabbed table. In some cases, those results have a letter qualifier
associated with them. If I could get Excel to just CrossTab the data and
not try to summarize it, I would be ever so happy. Any ideas? Many thanks.
