Pirate copy of XP Pro

I have bought a laptop and upon doing a windows update, have been informed
that the copy of Pro is not genuine.

I also suddenly have major problems with explorer 6, ans cannot reinstal it.

Microsoft have offered to make my Pro legit for £92 - will this reinstall
the OP or what?

I need to totally reinstall XP Pro and Explorer, but don't want to spend £92
if this will not do the job.

LOL! How do you know that it is a pirated copy of XP? MS's WGA Malware
finds many false positives, and shouldn't be believed.

Make sure you do indeed have a pirated copy and if you do when you get the
key use the links below to resolve your situation without reinstalling or
losing data.

Microsoft's web site that details how to determine if your CD copy of XP is

Please follow this simple troubleshooting procedure:

1. Download and install the MGA Diagnostic Tool:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=56062

2. After running the MGA Diagnostic Tool, click
on the "Windows" tab and then click on "Copy to Clipboard".

3. Next, visit the following website and create a post in the
"WGA Validation Problems" forum and paste the
results of the WGA Diagnostic Data in a detailed post.
http://forums.microsoft.com/Genuine/default.aspx?SiteID=25

4. A WGA troubleshooting specialist will analyze the data and
recommend an appropriate solution.

I look for Microsoft to get into a real bundle of trouble over this type
of behavior. To me this has all the earmarks of churning a product.

Wipe the drive. Install a legit copy of the OS you want to use.
