WGA screams pirate! after repair install

A

Anne Onime

I did a repair install of XP Pro OEM to fix some problem.
When XP finally boots, it says I may have a pirated Windows
and WGA has failed. It lets me not login until the problem
is resolved. I know my CD was valid, and the COA on the
case looks authentic to me. Does this mean a bogus copy
of Windows was put on this PC?
B.T.W. it came from a Baptist church, so felonious acts
would not be expected?

Are you saying that or asking?

Tired of this crap? Get a real operating system like Linux Mint. It's
free and comes with access to thousands of free programs. Get it at

First of all, boot into safe mode, log in, and remove WGAN:
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/...tion-and-notifications-19400-wga-patch-crack/

Then try validating over the internet. If it fails to validate that
way, call MS. When doing updates, make sure NOT to reinstall KB905474
(WGAN)!

Good luck.

Try the phone activation and if necessary explain the situation.

Good to know. I thought the phone activation was just an electronic
conversation. In fact I had to use phone activation and that's all I
used. I guess I didn't know or forgot there was a human option there.
BTW: If you need to use your machine in the mean-time

you should at least be able to log-in on safe-mode

Also good to know.

What kind of help is that? Telling them to remove the WGA will NOT help.

She didn't tell the OP to remove WGA. She suggested removing WGA/N.
They probably just need to do the phone activation and that will solve
the problem.

Do you know the difference between WGA and WGA/N?? Did you also know
that WGA/N is *famous* for giving out false positives? Calling any help
desk is a royal pain in the ass. Her advice is sound.

I've been lucky in that I never did have to talk to a person when I've
used phone activation...
but it as an option.

I normally activate "on line" but at least the phone activation
is pretty fast and painless

I had bought my CD at a hamfest, and they said the COA was valid, but
then it wouldn't work online, and I had to use the telephone. Becaue
it woudlnt' work online, I was fearing the worst, but it activated
just fine. No extra questions or anything.

I'm glad to hear there's a person option, because there are bound to
be wierd situations, like the OP's, although she never got back to us
so we don't know what happened.
