*PING* Susan - What about adding this category ? (oh, yea, and rest of ACF)

P

*ProteanThread*

a category for kids programs / utils / or apps (like the for KidProof
program I recently posted or the one that was also posted by SOS)?

.....or I could host it on my site (a kids version of pricelessware) ?

sorry, just rambling so try and follow me here:

but what about a category for kids applications and not just games (like a
category that lists a paint program or word processor geared towards kids)?

edutainment? Kids freeware is hard to find at best (at least good quality
proggies). ($$$) ware is also getting hard to find thats worth buying for
kids ( even $$$ proggies that will work on XP ) which is why i am
emphasizing kids pricelessware category or website at this point. i don't
want to step on any ones toes here but you've got just about every category
listed *EXCEPT* a category for kids? sure i've found a few kids freewar
sites (http://www.kidsfreeware.com) but a lot of the links to either the
programs and or authors sites are dead or get redirected to ($$$) ware. at
least if we had a Kids Pricelessware category or website then freeware
directed towards kids would get the same attention (and respect) as other
pricelessware progs. with child safety on the internet a top priority in
many homes these days (not to mention viruses and spyware) i thought it'd be
a good cause to take up by the group.

I'm not even sure I am making sense here, am I?

I am just a little frustrated here that the amount of ($$$) ware for kids
does not work on XP (amazingly large amount) and the limited amount of
overall freeware for kids that *IS* available. I can name three ($$$) ware
programs that my daughter really wanted to play (but I won't as it would be
OT for this group) that I could never get 'em to work on XP. I tried
looking for freeware equivalents but nothing found.

Does anyone / everyone think this project is worth ACF taking on ?

I'm gonna do what I can with http://www.villiagecouncil.net (dead link) but
I was wondering if the group as a whole can, well, heck, i don't know. My
boss just walked in and I lost my train of thought (it got dereailed
sometime back when I wrote the subject for this post)...........

(posted anyways to see if someone can pick this up and run with it)

there's a Program Information subcategory (only one program so far):

http://www.pricelessware.org/2004/programs/P_BUSINESS-HOME.php#6.03Children

also some kids stuff here:

http://www.pricelessware.org/2004/programs/P_BUSINESS-HOME.php#7.00Educational

There are currently a few other programs for children - but they're
listed under graphics, security, text etc. etc. - some of them could be
shifted to the children subcategory if the group thinks that's a better
place for them. (ISTM that the ones listed on the Security page should
stay there.)

As far as the Pricelessware List goes - PL 2005 *could* have children's
programs - they would have to be nominated and selected - just like any
other app. . .

I'd be happy to add more children's apps and/or regroup the ones that
are listed now on the Program Information pages. Post the info that's
needed to fill in the blanks. . .

If you do a web page for kids apps why don't you list it as your site on
the Members Sites page? I could also list the URL in the subcategory for
children on the Program Information pages.

That's as far as I've gotten so far - I think more apps for kids is a
good idea. . . .

What do you think guys? Is it something that we as a group and Susan as the
PricelessWare mistress should take on?

I think a seperate category would be excellent. and maybe I / the acf
readers can help build the group before PL 2005 ( just to get something
started )?

I'm sure we can come up with more ideas....

This is *your* project - not mine. If you ask I'm sure people will be
happy to post good kids programs they are familiar with - that should
help you create a good web page.

I'll add the children's apps you posted today (the ones that you/your
kids have used and recommend) to the Program Info pages.

You're putting the cart before the horse. . .

Any children's apps selected as PL2005 they will be shown on the
BUSINESS-HOME page. *When* 20 to 30 children's apps are selected as
Pricelessware we can start thinking about a new Category web page.

No, this is another project you're trying to start that you won't
finish.

Here's an idea, quit your desperate longing to be associated with acf
approval.

Sorry, I didn't mean like I was dumping the project on you. Was trying to
come up with other ideas.

So far so good....

I'll get started. Its one topic I think is widely overlooked in acf (excuse
me, Ben).

It's a niche category. There are a lot of OFs here - me included :) -
who don't need this sort of program - so not as much discussion as for
things like browsers. . .

over kill) ?)
