Hi

My laptop is connected to a cable modem via a wireless router. I am able to
ping 127.0.0.1 and the router address. But when i try to ping my own address
it does not work. I can surf internet but cannot play games on LAN. I cannot
even ping addresses of other PC in the network. I also have Norton Internet
Securites on Win XP.

How can I enable ping to my own address?

Regards,
- Vinay.

Vinay,

For my money, you have one of two problems.
# NIS / NPF. Personal firewalls are the most common cause of problems reported
here.

# LSP / Winsock Corruption.

This is what worked for me on 2/18/06. In Norton Internet Security 2005, I
clicked Help & Support > Norton Internet Security Help > on Search Tab, type
in "About the default firewall rules", and made sure that all my settings
matched the "Permit" listed there. Then, after going to Symantec and
searching "Ping", I made one final change, I modified from Block to Permit
the "Default Inbound/Outbound ICMP". This last change finally enabled me to
ping my own computer and allowed me to set up the shared printer for a laptop
connected through my router. Maybe this will help someone else.
