Pictures emailed to me open with word. How do I fix that?

When I open a picture emailed to me it opens in word and shows up as a bunch
of gibberish. How do I get pictures to open automatically in a different
program, like picture viewer?

Tell the sender to attach the picture rather than paste it inline the body
of their message. That way, disposition=attachment gets used so you can
save the attachment and open it. With dispostion=inline for the picture, it
shows up in the body of the message and the e-mail client will display it
within the body of the e-mail - and it sounds like you choose to use Word as
your e-mail editor than the editor built into Outlook.

I did choose word as my email editor. I'll change that back to the default
since asking senders to resend things doesn't seem feasable. Thanks for the
help. I'll try it.

You can separately configure to use Word as the compose editor, to use Word
to read RTF formatted e-mails, or both. So you could just configure Outlook
to *not* use Word to read RTF mails. If you cannot request your senders to
send the pictures as an attachment (i.e., dispostion=attach) rather than
inline, I have to wonder from where you are getting these e-mails, like you
are subscribing to, ahem, a daily "artistic" picture mailing list.
