Pictures are not saving right...

Whenever I'm in internet explorer, and I try to save a
picture, it doesnt save right. I mostly save .gif
and .jpg. When I try to save one, it automatically wants
to save it as .bmp. So, I usually just manually
type "picturename.jpg". But when I try to open the
picture again with IE, picture editors, etc it says its
not a valid file. The only thing I can open it with is
Windows XP Picture and Fax viewer. This is disconvienent
since I usually want the pictures to use in graphics
later.
Any way that I can fix this?

Clear out your temporary internet files and restart your
browser window. Should work ok.
