picture and fax viewer icon GONE!

after installing various programs on my computer, somehow the little sailboat
icon that normally appears on jpg and other windows picture and fax viewer
files is gone! the classic "unknown file type" icon has replaced it. however
the images still open correctly in windows picture and fax viewer. I have
gone into options and re-set picture and fax viewer as the default and the
icon didnt return! although this problem may seem trivial, it is quite
difficult to discern my images files from video data files without the
helpful sailboat icon!!

any help would be greatly apprecieated!!

Not quite sure what you need.
The sailboat icon was taken over by some software you installed. OK.
However, you got it back by re-setting.
What kind of help do you need?

Well, the icon isn't back, my mistake for mis-wording the post. the icon is
gone. i want the icon back.
