Photoshop compatibility

I have a website template in photoshop (5.5, ouch!) format. Can I import it
into Frontpage and continue designing it there?

Well, PS is a graphics editor. And what you have, then, is a graphic file
(a *.psd file). So, you would have to EXPORT the images and the HTML from
Photoshop, and then import them into FP to continue working on it.

Be aware that this is usually not a great way to create a robust webpage.
Most (all?) graphic editors build inflexible, brittle, and easily broken
table structures for a page.

Your better approach would be to export the images (only) from PS, and then
to recreate the page in FP using those graphics.

You'll need to creatively slice the graphic, or prepare to slice it
up, in order to export the pieces into FrontPage. I haven't used PhotoShop
5.5 in ages, so I forget if it has the ability to divide images into slices.
Determine carefully which parts you can create as graphics, and which part
you can create as text. This will help you determine the layout used so you
can begin designing the tables to hold everything with FrontPage. It's a bit
of an art-form, but with a bit of practice you should be able to master it
quickly, mostly through trial and error. You just have to determine which
parts can or need to be designed with which application. Keep as much text
as you can in FrontPage instead of creating them into images (except where
absolutely necessary of course).

Pretty sure 5 had slicing..I know 6 does. A tad awkward though.

Thanks. Yes the template I'm working from is sliced! Front page is on the way
here. It should be interesting!

if it's sliced it's probably been converted to a bunch of .gif or .jpg
images.
you can easily use them in FrontPage.
