Photos and on-line videos are too dark to view

All the pictures and videos we view on the web are to dark and we can not see the pictures or watch the videos. I have adjusted everything I can find but both pictures and videos are too dark. Any ideas?

Sounds like you have a problem with your monitor...
Would it be possible to try a different monitor just for
comparison?

There are likely controls on the monitor as well as controls on the
display adapter. It sounds like the gamma set on the display adapter is
set too low. Normal monitor gamma is 2 - 2.2. Your adapter might have
brightness and contrast in which case the contrast is too high and the
brightness too low. When you set these it is best to have any
brightness and contrast on the monitor set to the default average. The
display adapter controls are in the Display control panel.

Further complicating this is that some computers (notably laptops) have
separate brightness controls that are independent of the display adapter
controls. These are a function-key assignement, F5, or some other key
assignment. This control should be set to maximum (from my limited
experience) then the adapter controls set for a decent picture.
