Photo story issues

Hi -

I am new to Photo Story and am trying to make a video which includes photos
and music. So far so good. I've edited the timing so that the pictures
change on specific beats --- all together, I must say I am quite impressed
with my rookie product!

So, what's the problem you ask. The pictures change to the beat of the
music in the preview mode only. When I go to save it, suddenly there is a
time delay that seems to build on itself throughout the course of the video.
Quite to my dismay, it did it on the DVD version I made as well as a "save to
computer" version.

Any guesses?

My second question deals with sharing the final video. My dad, whom the
video is ultimately for, does not have a DVD player, so it has to be able to
go on his computer. I tried to open my DVD version in my computer and got
some error message (aka - need to buy more software message). If I do that,
"save for playback on my computer" thing, couldn't I just drag that over to a
CD / DVD and have him play that?

Thanks for your time.

I don't think it's possible to synchronize
images and audio to the level you require
using PhotoStory. Maybe you could
do it in Windows Movie Maker because
it has the option to edit the length of the
sound files.

..WMV is PhotoStory's default format
and anyone with Windows Media Player
7 or later can play the completed files
on their computer. You could e-mail the
file or burn it on a data CD. Also...if you
have the software for it...you can create
a VCD that should play on most DVD
players.

Thanks John.

I think I've resolved my data copying issues. I had my computer restored
recently, and that disk from Sony that Best Buy said I "didn't need" is
actually quite necessary to be able to burn data cd's. So, once that
arrives, I should be good to go on that end.

I don't think I was very clear on my other issue - perhaps my bigger issue.
I have the story all nicely timed and coordinated to the music now. In the
Photo Story Preview pane, it looks perfect. Changes pictures when it's
suppose to ...everything. In the DVD copy, the timing slowly erodes so that
within a few minutes (overall story is 21 minutes long), the timing is off by
at least a 1/2 second, and towards the end of the video it's off by a good
second if not more. After viewing the DVD, I went back to the preview
thinking that I inserted a picture and forgot to adjust the timing or
something, but that's not the case, because it is the good version still.
So, there is something amiss between the preview and the conversion.

I had Movie Maker before, but Best Buy had convinced me that Photo Story was
a superior product for doing this type of project. After my original post, I
did import my photo story file into movie maker, but it seemed real choppy
when playing in the preview. Do you know if that will go away? I've got well
over 30 hours into this project, and really don't want to start all over
again.

Thanks again for you time. I really appreciate it.

I was not suggesting that you open the
PhotoStory project in Movie Maker...I was
thinking you may want to create the project
from scratch in Movie Maker.

Good luck with your projects.

I've had good luck with synchronizing transitions to external (.mp3)
music. Of course, my longest effort that did this was about 3 minutes,
but it retained sync to the beat throughout.

The OP should check his transition times to make sure that they
fit within the "picture" times he has defined.

However many times that I press the New And Answer button I can not start
another thread so I apolagise for jumping on this one.
I have a question:
Has anyone come across a printed guide or book on Windows Photo Story 3?
