Photo Story 3 - holding pic after motion effect is done

I have 4 pictures where the motion effect starts out on a small box and
gradually expands to the entire picture. It then transitons with a cross-fade
effect to the next picture.

But once the current picture expands to the full size, I want it to stay
there for another 5 seconds. When defining the picture, if the duration is X
then it takes X seconds to go from the small box to the full size, then
transitions immediately to the next picture. How do I delay the transition to
the next picture for 5 more seconds?

What I tried was to import 2 copies of each picture (the same .jpg was
imported twice).
The 1st copy had the motion effects and no transition. It's duration was 10
seconds.

The 2nd copy had a duration of 5 seconds, no motion, the start position was
set to the same as the end position of the prevous picture (there is a box to
check for this) and the end position was set to the same as the start
position (the other box to check).
The transition was set as cross-fade for 2 seconds.

I repeated this process with the other 3 pictures and saved using the NTSC
DVD 640x480 setting (making a motion background menu for a DVD - plan on
using Tmpg to convert to mpeg2).

While this worked, the display (on the PC) became noticably fuzzy for the
2nd copy of each picture (the ones that hold the whole picture for 5
seconds). The 1st copy of each picture (the ones with the 10 sec motion
effect) were crystal clear.

Any idea why the output degraded for the 2nd copy?
Any other ways to hold onto a picture after the motion effect is done?

thanks

hELLO,

i TOOK A QUICK LOOK AT ps3 AND REMOVED IT FROM MY SYSTEM.....THE OBVIOUS ANSWER
TO YOUR QUESTION WOULD BE TO MAKE THE "NEXT" PICTURE ANOTHER INSTANCE OF THE
SAME PICTURE

hELLO :)

Erm....you should only need to import the picture once. Once available for use
you should be able to use it as many times as you like.....each use being
another instance of the data but manipulated in a different way...but as I
said...I did not like the program and got rid of it... If it is NOT possible to
do as I suggest...well it supports my base feeling about the program.

In Movie Maker you CAN do exactly what I suggest, but you would not need to
because you have perhaps greater control......for example the picture in
question can have a 10 second duration and at each end a 3 second transition
with the prior and next picture (or video clip) which would leave the image
with a 4 second part in the middle where you could if you wanted do "something"
else.

Hope that helps.

The transition was set as cross-fade for 2 seconds.

The transition for 2nd copy (the one that remains still) should be None.
While this worked, the display (on the PC) became noticably fuzzy for the
2nd copy of each picture (the ones that hold the whole picture for 5
seconds). The 1st copy of each picture (the ones with the 10 sec motion
effect) were crystal clear.

The DVD profile has been reported by many other users to have a degraded
output. There seems to be a bug in this profile and some people have said
they were able to fix it by tweaking some parameters in the .prf file.

However the built in profile for Computers 640x480 produces much better
results anyway. So why not try that.

Thanks, I'll see if I can do that.

Can't try it in MM2 because, for some reason, I can't see any lists of
transitions or effects to select in MM2. Others have said to uninstall SP2 &
reinstall the SP2 from the MS download site but that didn't help.

You have to import it again for each use of the picture in the story.... and
for smooth transitions, set the ending position of one as the same as the
starting position of the next one and uncheck the option to use a
transition.

Hello again....

Just been talking to a chap who still has it on his machine.....for each image
you CAN select the duration for the image AND select the duration for each
transition....thereby leaving the gap in the middle I think you are after....so
you do NOT need to load the image twice....I was wrong about the way you could
use / re-use the same image when I said it was the same as Movie Maker....scrap
that bit.

The duration of the image is modified by going to the "Customize Motion"
option...its a bit hard when I can't see the program....but that should get you
going again.

That's exactly what I did.
My problem is when playing the resultant .wmv file, the picture suddenly
goes blurry when going from the 1st picture (which has motion & no transition)
to the copy of it (which has no motion and the boxes check to start it at
the ending location of the prev picture. It has a transition , but that's
for the subsequent picture).

There are 4 indivudual pictures (8 when importing each one twice) and the
2nd, 4th, 6th, & 8th pictures (the ones with no motion) all appear much
blurrier than the preceding copy.

There were saved using the 640x480 NTSC DVD profile.
I wanted to use a custom profile, but for whatever reason, the custom
profiles I put in the PS3 profile directory don't show up as a selectable
profile.
