Photo Re-Sizing

Does anyone have any suggestions as to which is the easiest programme to use
to crop pictures to a pre-set size? Microsoft Picture Manager seems great,
but only if you want to use its predefined sizes (5x7, 10x8 etc), but I need
to choose bespoke sizes.

I'm trying to insert photos into a preformatted slide layout in Powerpoint,
but Powerpoint automatically adjusts the box to fit the original photo
dimensions. I've checked the 'Do Not Autofit' box, but it doesn't seem to
make any difference.

Any solutions to either problem? Thanks.

Hi,

Microsoft Office Picture Manager will allow you to crop by pixels. Go to
Edit Pictures, Crop and use the spinner to adjust the crop handles.

As for images changing size, go to Tools, Autocorrect Options, Auto format
as you type tab and uncheck Automatic layout for inserted objects.

Hi

This is great, but I have a couple of 'buts'.

In Picture Editor I want to crop using centimetres not pixels (no idea what
a pixel even is).

I'm using the 2007 version of Powerpoint, which doesn't seem to have the
'Automatic Layout for Inserted Objects' option. At least, it's not not in
the AutoFormat as You Type menu. Any idea if it has gone completely in 2007,
or where else it might be?

Sue,
One of the really cool things about PPT 2007 is that you can create your own
slide layouts. A side effect to this is that there is a slide with each
theme/template for picture slides. Go to View--> Master Slide and scroll
down until you find the picture layout. Change the dimensions of the picture
placeholder to the size you want. If you want to set up any effects for the
pictures, you can do that at this time too. Close Master View.

Once you have done that, you can insert a picture slide, click the picture
placeholder and select your picture. You now have a picture at the size and
look you want. (And, they are compressible too!)

Thanks for your reply, but I'm sure this is what I'm doing, and at the point
that I insert the picture, the frame re-sizes to fit the picture's original
dimensions. Where am I going wrong? I've spent all day searching for the
"Automatic Layout for Inserted Objects" option that Glen referred to, but
can't find it anywhere in 2007 (although I've checked on a machine that is
still running 2003 and it's right where Glen said it would be). Something so
easy shouldn't be this hard!!

Hmmm.. I haven't seen a placeholder re-size when I use a picture placeholder
to create the spot for the picture. Are you sure you are adding the picture
to a picture placeholder and not just adding it using the Insert tab?

Since we can't see what you are doing, can you give us a step by step
description of what you are doing?

Hi Kathy, thanks for your perseverance

I think the problem may be because I have used Content Placeholders not
Picture Placeholders. Is this possible? I've tried one using a Picture
Placeholder and it seems to work fine. The problem is that I really want to
keep the placeholders as Content, as on some slides I want to insert text or
charts, but in the same format as the slides that have pictures. Is there a
way around this?
