Photo problems post 98 to 2000 upgrade

Having recently upgraded from Win 98 to Win 2000 on a
Gateway Computers machine, photos now appear very
pixelated on screen. A picture used as a desktop wallpaper
is completely pixelated as are jpeg files received on and
opened from Outlook. Can anyone please assist?
 
Have you checked with Gateway for an updated w2k video driver?
 
No, but I have altered colour settings to High Color (16 bit) and this seems to have done the trick. Thanks for your time.
