Upgrading from 98 to 2000

Dave A

I have a PC with Windows 98 loaded.
I wanted to upgrade to Windows 2000
I loaded Windows 2000 (in addition to Windows 98) (i.e. I
didn't upgrade).
A message came up at boot up to ask which system I would
like to select. This worked fine and the system worked
okay.
Lately, this message does not appear and the PC always
boots up using Windows 98.
I would like to get rid of 98 and just have 2000 running.
How can I achieve this, bearing in mind that if I try to
reinstall 2000 it won't allow the installation to
complete as it already finds both previously loaded
operating systems.

Dave,

Sounds like the c:\boot.ini file has been changed, or the startup/recovery
options in windows 2000 has changed (woudln't know how though).

You might have to manually change the contents of boot.ini (hopefully,
timeout option).

http://web.ukonline.co.uk/cook/dualboot.htm should provide you some basic
insight.

Hope this helps

Ali
